JANUARY THYROID AWARENESS MONTH

Melissa Mitchell - Wednesday, January 25, 2017

I’m sure that recently most of us have heard someone mention something about the thyroid gland, whether it be a from doctor, a friend or a loved one. Why is there so much recent focus on this particular gland? Well, most people are unaware of the power that this one gland possesses on our overall health and wellness. The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormones that dictate the metabolism (energy input/output) of each and every cell in the body as well as protein synthesis. Unlike any other hormone in the body, thyroid hormones are unique in that every single cell in the body has receptors for thyroid hormones. Therefore, when someone has a dysfunctional thyroid gland, all cells can be affected and because the thyroid gland supports the metabolism of every system of the body, essentially any health issue can be linked to thyroid dysfunction.   Read More

Headaches & Migraines - The Chiropractic Approach

Brian Heller - Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Headaches

Many people suffer daily from the constant and sometimes debilitating pain that can be caused by headache disorders and migraines.

Headaches/migraines have become a common occurrence in today’s society, but by no means does that make them normal. Most often these headaches are caused by mechanical dysfunction of the spinal column along with associated muscle tension. The dysfunction commonly arises due to acute physical trauma, repetitive trauma, postural abnormalities/adaptations and emotional stress, just to name a few.

Aside from neck and back pain, headaches and migraines are among the more common reasons of why patients seek chiropractic care.

Sugar, good God y’all, what is it good for . . . + (Paleo) Caramel Sauce Recipe

Brian Heller - Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Earlier this week I was helping my daughter do a paper for school. The subject was sugar and other sweeteners. The timing was great because my recipe for this week is a Paleo Caramel which while not using high fructose corn syrup, does use honey and/or maple syrup. I’ll have more on this later. OK, so my daughter had to come up with an argument as to why sugar should be banned and then a counter argument why it shouldn’t. From the reading materials she had from school she had already come up with plenty of arguments as to why it should be banned and was looking for help from me as to why it shouldn’t. Her arguments for banning it were pretty convincing (diabetes, heart disease, death) and I was having a hard time helping her with why it shouldn’t. My first answer, without really thinking, was that nobody should tell responsible people what they should and shouldn’t put in their bodies. Of course this could have opened up a huge discussion to which we would have never finished her homework, but luckily she is a 13 year old who just wanted to finish her assignment.  Read More

Paleo puppies? Heller Chiropractic is going to the dogs!

Brian Heller - Tuesday, November 03, 2015

foodNo, we aren't adjusting animals now, although there are some great veterinary chiropractors. I just wanted to tell you a remarkable thing that happened with one of my dogs. Her name is Krispeez and she is a German Shepherd mix. We don't know what she might be mixed with because we got her from the shelter when she was pretty young, but as you can see from the picture she is mainly German Shepherd.  Read More

Chiropractic, The Sooner the Better - Utilizing chiropractic for preconception, pregnancy and child development

Melissa Mitchell - Wednesday, October 21, 2015

A complex, intricate and exacting system lives within each one of us that works in harmony with every cell to allow us to live in and experience the world around us. This system performs thousands of tasks each and every moment with such precision, constantly adapting to our internal and external environment to maintain optimal health and performance. The brain sends and receives signals to and from the body via the spinal cord and the spinal nerves. These messages coordinate every action and function of the body. Any interference to this nerve system can cause a cascade of events that can affect our ability to develop, grow thrive and achieve and maintain health.  Read More
